I tried to also get the ‘39 De Luxe sedan running, I got from no spark to weak spark at least this weekend. Dizzy is rebuilt but I feel like I am coming up short in the coil department after swapping a few out. Ah spring is here, time for resurrecting stuff. Slightly less notable than my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but worth posting a few vids regardless. This yet again proves TFritch is just the West Coast 505...

second attempt, dammit - next time. Hopefully another crazy review too

Is the 39 still running a flathead with 6v wiring?

you know it is. 6v, positive ground

Hmm, could be a few things for weak spark, bad wires, coil, weak battery and or generator.

wires seem okay, I tested for spark out of the dizzy. Was def not weak battery as I was using a 12V on it (notice how quick that starter was going over! Didnt use lights or anything that could blow). Coil I swapped out 3 of dubious condition, though one was out of a running car a few years back. Generator/regulator disconnected but the battery was at full charge

If the wires are lead core then the lead could have broken up inside of the casing causing a loss of spark through the wire. I had that happen on a couple small block Chevys.

AAARRGGHH. No other words. I’m starting to think Maine has more and better old cars like this than CA does, and you have access to all of them. I’m going to have to step up my game to carry the torch out here!

I am not even through yet with my finds for the weekend. My favorite color combo too... and for sale. I’ll drive it to you for gas and a plane ticket. I was considering calling to see what he wants for it in just a few minutes. You know you need increased seating capacity with a new baby on the way!!!

Oh man, that would make such a great Laguna Seca camper/Ford parts hauler. I’d have to let my Vanagon go, but it’s been sitting for years and damn... that thing is cool, and dat green! Gotta agree, the colors are perfect. Looks pretty damn solid for a Nor’Easter too.

rocker on the other side is in tough shape. What do you have for a Vanagon again?

An ‘82 GL, last of the air coolers. Two tone blue, rusty at the front and smokes too badly to pass smog, but I put almost 100k on it myself and grew up with it so I’m a little sentimental.

god dammit I love that color too. This long distance relationship thing isn’t working :(

Push button start before they were cool

hahaha, no it certainly is not! Speaking of long distance temptations, I think I just found a running 900SPG for $300.

check those control arm mounts well! Or prepare the welder.
Where is it at?

I should have said long distance to you, it’s local to me, so rust probably isn’t even an issue. Says it might need a trans, but those cars just don’t die here.

not surprising on the transmission, who cares. Probably half of all SPG’s have something whacked with the tranny right now

I’m sure. I don’t even remember the last time I drove any 900 that didn’t whine or have balky synchros. They’ll do 100k like that.
